Parents are a child’s first teachers, and there are simple things that you can do at home to help your kids develop the language and pre-reading skills that will help them succeed in school.

Suggestions to help encourage learning:

Read to babies, toddlers and preschoolers every day!
Talk to young kids frequently. Ask them questions and
speak clearly.
Take young kids to the library. Let them see you reading.
Tell your child stories. Listen patiently to their efforts
to talk.
Say nursery rhymes and sing rhyming songs. Make up
your own!
Point out letters around you. Read alphabet books.

At three to five years, books can become a springboard for your child's energy and imagination.
